Center for Data Journalism Nepal (CDJN) in collaboration with Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), is organizing a residential workshop under its project titled ‘Climate reporting using Data and GIS tools‘. We are pleased to announce that this training program is being offered to 12-15 journalists from Nepal. The workshop scheduled to be held on June 15 -17, 2023, has been designed to enhance your skills and provide you with the latest tools and techniques to closely explore different story angles on climate change.
After the training, participants are expected to build skills in using
🔍 Free and open-source tools and techniques for online research
📜 Portals/sources of climate-related data and documents
🌎 Geospatial and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools for mapping and visualization
Who can apply?
We call out passionate Nepali journalists committed to delivering impactful and meaningful data-driven stories on climate change, environment and social paradigm shifts. We are looking for young and mid-career journalists and writers who have:
1️⃣ 3-5 years of journalism experience
2️⃣ Covered stories related to climate and environment
3️⃣ Idea of Google Sheets or MS Excel
4️⃣ Commitment to attend full training sessions
5️⃣ Basic ideas about online and social media search
Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to submit their story proposals. From these submissions, six fellows will be selected to receive small story grants and will be provided with technical and editorial support from CDJN to work on their proposals further.
